[Travel] Melbourne (Summary) : What and Where to Eat | sillyandordinarygirl

By Lasmarya Hadi Purwanto - June 19, 2021

Disclaimer: This post will be based on our own experience and personal review only!

Does it mean that we highly recommend these? In our humble opinion, YES! (BUT, please take note that our preferences, budgets, length of stay etc might differ from yours, so if this list helps you or suits you, feel free to use it as your reference :))

Sorry in advance that I can't recommend other places or food that we haven't tried ourselves, as it will not be an honest recommendation. So, if there's any that doesn't make it to the list, it is either not recommended (by me! Different opinion may apply!) or we simply haven't had a chance to try it out yet, hence we don't have any opinion about it. :D

I once heard that Melbourne is well-known for its brunches. There are soo many great places that serve good brunch in the city. But, I personally think what makes Melbourne's brunch scene even more special is because the city itself is very artsy. And the F&B business owners in Melbourne took it to another level by combining artistic (also instagram-able) interior design and good food, offering us a distinctive dining / brunch-ing experience.  We didn't have many chances to explore and taste more, but here are some of the places that made it to our recommendation list:
This is definitely a must-visit in Melbourne. As an avid lover of croissant, I promise myself that I'll come back to Lune once I have a chance to visit the city again. The croissant is really to die for and the ambience was really nice. Moreover, I also love the background story of how Lune Croissanterie came to be, and how its founder pays so much attention in detail that she created a "cube" to make sure that the temperature is perfect for the croissants, and so on. 3. Higher Ground
Higher Ground is a very cool dining place that was transformed from a former power house. The service was great, the ambience was cozy, and the food was good. It was quite crowded at the time we went there, although we still managed to get a table.

Kettle Black is under the management of Darling Group, which also manages other famous cafes / brunch restaurants, including Higher Ground. Kettle Black's most popular menu is its ricotta hotcake, so if you go there, make sure to give it a try!

5. Chin Chin

Chin Chin is a famous restaurant in Australia serving South-East Asian inspired menus. Both its Melbourne and Sydney branches are known to be packed with customers, and queue is often required to get a table, which also happened to us at that time. Though we got quite lucky to be offered seats on the bar. Unfortunately, as we're sitting at the bar, the lighting wasn't decent enough for me to take good picture of the food that we ordered, but I remembered clearly how satisfied we were with the meal.

6. Auction Room
The Auction Rooms is a cafe / a coffee roastery, featuring a selection of daily blends available for purchase. The facade may look like an abandoned building, but it is actually pretty cozy inside. Too bad, we weren't coffee drinker, so we didn't order the coffee, but if you are, I think you should give their specialty blend coffee a try.
Recommended menu:
- Breakfast board : grilled chorizo, smoked salmon, cauliflower fritter, soft-boiled egg, rye soldiers, granola, turmeric & ginger smoothie
- Arepa e’huevo : Colombian corn pancakes, fried egg, creamed mushrooms, crispy sage, vino cotto, gremolata & parmesan (gf) (v)

And here we are, at the end of the list. I'm pretty sure that there are even more good dining places / cafes in Melbourne now that are worth to try besides the ones in the list here. I would love to visit Melbourne again if I have a chance and of course, explore more and dine more, and who knows I might have Melbourne series season 2? :DD *fingerscrossed
Another disclaimer, this is a summary of a travelogue from a trip in June 2018, so the menu might have changed, or no longer available, or the price listed in the posts might not even relevant anymore.

See you in the next post?
