The Days of a Silly and Ordinary Girl! :D

It is said that when you are in Melbourne, there are 3 day trips that you should check out: Great Ocean Road, Yarra Valley, and Phillip Island. 

Since we did two of them, the Great Ocean Road and Yarra Valley, here are my thoughts: 

You should really consider taking the Great Ocean Road tour as you'll get to see the natural wonders, get closer to the nature, and not to mention, the coastal views along the way were just too good to be missed. Check my blog post about the day trip along the ocean road, here. 

For the Yarra Valley - Beer, Cider, Wine and Food day trip, I wouldn't really recommend it if you're not a wine/beer/cider drinker like I am. During the whole trip, we were offered to taste wine/beer/cider for *let me count* four times. I only sipped a very tiny little bit, for once or twice. (Well, during the Great Ocean Road tour, I drank a cup of Moscato, and I got so dizzy, that Diana got so worried and we just decided not to let me drink too much, haha). So to be honest, if you don't drink, I'm afraid the trip would be a waste, or even if you insist on joining, you'll probably just stand on the side, look around for the wine tasting session, listen to the owners explaining the production process or maybe take pictures of anything else around the winery/brewery/ciderhouse. However, the food was okay though, and some of the winery have awesome architectural designs. 

So I guess, that's my two cents.

So for the last trip to Melbourne, we decided to spend our money a bit more lavishly, as a reward to ourselves after working our asses off (nope, that's just hyperbole) for the whole year, and when we're searching for a hotel in the CBD area, especially in the Flinders Lane, we came across this Adelphi hotel, which kept coming out in every list of the Melbourne's best hotels. 

After reading a lot of positive reviews and also considering our budget, we finally made a decision to have a 2-night stay in this chic yet quaint looking hotel. 

Apparently, the building of the hotel itself, which used to be a rag trade warehouse, was bought by Denton Corker Marshall architects, who then converted it into a boutique hotel that was officially opened in 1992. After that, in 2013, the hotel was purchased by three new owners, Dion Chandler, Ozzie Kheir and Simon Ongorato, who hired award-winning design guru Fady Hachem to redesign the hotel's interior and image, and transformed it into the world's premier "dessert" hotel that has won Victoria's Best Boutique Hotel award three years in a row - 2016, 2017, and 2018. 

Why is it called "dessert" hotel, you're asking? Well, I wondered myself too, and when I look it up, the hotel is adorned with cherry-inspired lamps, liquorice stools, cake-like-patterned carpets, and chocolate-toned furnishings. Can you spot all of them in the photos? It was so cool, isn't it? 

But the best of them all, in my very humble opinion, is this, the CHARIOT! 

This chariot is the receptionist btw, and I didn't even notice the whole shape at all when I was there, how silly I was! So unique! How could they think of putting a chariot in the hotel's lobby? And it fits so wonderfully well!
