[Travelogue] South Korea: Seoul, Day 8 | Nami Island, Petite France and Ewha Women University

29th March 2017
Day 8 - Seoul
This was another day, besides day 5, on which we had to hit the road quite early because day 8 was specially booked for Nami Island. Yeaay! They said, "You're not officially visiting Seoul if you don't stop by Nami Island." So, of course, we had to be there. :D

DIRECTIONS (to Nami Island from Hongdae):
1. Setting off from Hongdae subway station, through Gyeongui Jungang line (tosca color line) to Sangbong station (14 stops), transfer to Gyeongchun line (light blue with dotted line color), and head to Gapyeong station (14 stops) - 1 hour 57 min, KRW 2,350
Another way to reach Gapyeong from different area of Seoul, kindly check the complete tips from:  How to Go to Nami Island: By Subway
Bought some snacks for the almost-two-hour trip.
If you notice, we've been snacking on this "DeliManjo" warm soft cake a lot, and we still couldn't get enough of it,so yummy :d

2. Once you arrive at Gapyeong station, go outside, you'll see a shuttle bus stop and the tourist information office right next to it. (If necessary, go inside and ask the friendly staff about the arriving time of the shuttle bus, and other information that you need).

3.   Wait for the "Gapyeong city tour" shuttle bus at the bus stop. The bus ticket can only be bought by cash  (note: they don't accept T-money) and purchased from the bus driver. It costs KRW 6,000 per person, for the whole route around Gapyeong tourist resort, including to some other tourist destinations, like Petit France or Morning Calm Arboretum. This means, you'll get to hop on and hop off the bus at any stop around the area without having to buy separate tickets for the whole day, and all you need to do is show your ticket to the bus driver when you get on, and you are set to go! Here’s more information of Gapyeong City Tour and its course.
4. Get off at Gapyeong Wharf (Namiseom Island), and you can choose either :
a)     a ferry ride : KRW 8,000 (return trip to and from Nami Wharf)
b)     zip-wire : KRW 38,000 (to Nami Wharf)

5.  Arrive at Nami Wharf and enjoy Nami Island!
TIPS:
1.  Set out as early as possible on the day, that way it will be less crowded in Nami Island when you arrive (the earlier the better, less crowd, better photos? XD), and you'll have more time to explore Nami and other tourist spots in the area before it gets flooded by tourists.
2. Plan your itinerary well, as it takes much time to commute from Seoul to Gapyeong, it will be much better if you can visit some of the tourist spots in the area on the same day (that you don't have to waste another day commuting to Gapyeong back and forth), so set your time limit to spend in one spot and move on to the other when the time is up. Remember, it takes almost four hours for the transportion only, so better not waste your time.
3. There's usually a long queue at the Gapyeong bus stop, so while you're waiting for the bus to come, you had better prepare the 6,000 won cash in your hand, so that when the bus finally arrives, you won't stall other people queuing behind you, while waiting for you to fish out your wallet or purse from your bag, and hand out the cash to the bus driver, not to mention if you don't have the exact amount of cash. It can get really annoying for the others, you know.
4. Don't ever lose your ticket and keep it somewhere within reach, like in your pocket or, for someone very careless like me, since the ticket is so small, I'll lose it easily, I put the ticket at the back of my cellphone's case, which is a transparent silicon case, so I can just take my phone out and show the driver the back side of my phone with my ticket beneath it. Can you picture what I mean?
4. Do seriously consider trying the zip-wire! I didn’t get to try it, although I really wanted to, because of one and two reasons, but if you’re not tight on budget, and you’ve never tried something like this before, I really think it would be a very cool experience zip-wiring to Nami Island. (I’m solemnly wishing that I’ll have another chance to visit Seoul, and try it out myself! So pray for me! Haha) BUT, if you think you’d rather spend the money on something else (since it’s pretty pricey for the zip-wire), riding the ferry is totally cool too! :)
And, here's Nami Island!

Nami Island is well-known as the shooting location of the famous drama Winter Sonata, which since the airing of the successful drama, has gathered popularity and became one of the hot spot for tourists coming to South Korea.

As we're super hungry after playing around, we randomly picked a restaurant around the area, and ordered three meals for KRW 30,000.

Leaving Namiseom and moving on...

Well, hello Little Prince! :D
Petite France in Gapyeong is a French-style theme park and cultural village constructed in July 2008 that consists of 16 French-style buildings, made up of gallery, museums, restaurants, cafes, guesthouses, shops and even a youth training centre. The admission fee for adult is KRW 8,000, but by using the Gyeonggido Coupon book, we got in just by paying KRW 6,000.

We actually didn't have much time in Petite France, as we had lost track of time in Nami Island, we forgot for a while that we're on a tight schedule, haha, so we didn't get to go inside the buildings, we only got to walk around the area, quickly snapped some pictures, and left. See tips no 2!

 Not ready kinda face XD

Another not-ready-kinda expression XD

Leaving Gapyeong through Cheongpyeong Station, and heading back to Seoul...
from Cheongpyeong station, ride the subway to Mangu station (11 stops-44 min), then transfer to Gyeongi Jungang, towards Wangsimni (5 stops-16 min), then from Wangsimni, head to Ewha Womens University (10 stops-17 min).
and arrived in Seoul, but we had to hurry cause...
we're chasing the sunset in Ewha Women University... come on, come on!
The sun is setting!!

We made it! We made it! Oh my God, how I love chasing sunsets! <3

Trying to copy +Diana Liu 's pose, but I guess I messed it up XD

Passed by a shop selling cute raincoats and umbrellas! Uber cuteee!

Satisfying our cravings of Nene Chicken again!!
Found one around Ewha by using Waze,
travelling is made a lot easier by Google Maps and Waze, huge thanks to whoever creating them!

This time trying its Snow Chicken + Swicy (Sweet Spicy Chicken) for KRW 21,000.
The Swicy, unfortunately, is not as spicy as the Spicy Fire Chicken, therefore not as mindblowing too, but the Snow Chicken still satisfying as usual. :D

Is this Yoo Jae-suk's sign?
We asked the cashier, but he didn't seem to understand our question and replied something in Korean that we didn't understand either, so yeah, let's just consider it as a yes. Haha

and we made one last stop to Seoul Station's Lotte Mart again before heading back to our Airbnb. A'int have any footage of our time there as we were in shopping frenzy, and didn't think of taking pictures or recording. So, I hope words will do. Haha

And there goes our day 8 in South Korea,
woah,
can't believe that we're reaching the end of our trip pretty soon,
phew,
it's been fun,
but,
bear with me a little bit more,
and,
I guess I'll see you around in the last post of the South Korea series.
xoxo
