Don't Mess with Melaka. (part 1)

By Lasmarya Hadi Purwanto - June 24, 2015

Hello :)
Was away to Melaka and KL for the previous weekend. Hihi.
The main reason for the trip was actually to accompany my mom to have her general check-up in Melaka. The decision to go itself was quite sudden. My brother agreed to guide his ex-colleagues to Melaka (as he has been there twice before) to have their check-up there too, and when he told us about his plan, my mom out of nowhere said,"Bring me there too!" and I, accordingly, said the same thing (not to the having check-up part, but to the travelling part). :p

Soo, we set off from home early in the morning of 18th June, around 5 a.m to reach the train station on time, rode the train to airport, checked in, had some breakfast, then waited for our flight till around 8.40 for boarding.
Touched down at KL at almost noon, had our lunch at KLIA2, and waited again for our bus to Melaka at 13.15 local time. (We're riding TransNational Express to Melaka which cost us RM 24.10 each person)
The bus was quite full, and it took us almost 2 hours to reach Melaka from KLIA2. And most of us slept all the way there, (since we had to wake up very early that morning) XD, so don't ask me what I saw on the way, because all I can remember is we're passing highways,  as I completely passed out :p
Ah, I remembered that the bus made a stop at A'Famosa resort. :)
We reached Melaka Sentral (Melaka's bus station) at around 3 and we took a taxi for RM 20 per ride to our guesthouse. We stayed for two nights at "Travellers Planet Hostel". The room was clean (we had our own bathroom in the room, although it's quite small, maybe about 2,4 square metre, but I had not much problem with that), very affordable, and is located in a very strategic area. It is close to some of the major attractions of Melaka which is within reach by several minutes walk.
When we arrived there, it was the first day of the Fasting Month, so most of the stores were closed. The city wasn't crowded, and we got a sense of tranquility, serenity, and it really felt like a relaxing holiday without all the urban noise, hastiness, the rush that we usually encounter in big cities.
After putting all our luggages in the hostel, we went out and walked to Mahkota Hospital . It was only about 5-10 minutes walk from our guesthouse. We arrived there but the registration counter had been closed. They asked us to come back again tomorrow morning.
Then, we walked around the area, stopped for a while at the Dataran Pahlawan Shopping Centre and made a visit to the Stadthuys (when we arrived, it was closed already, so we only took some pictures in front of it.), St. Paul's church, and A'Famosa Fort.
(part of Dataran Pahlawan Shopping Mall, I was amazed by its building structure, they built it horizontally instead of vertically, which is quite from building structure nowadays)

(Some pictures that I took at Kaison, a big store in the mall that sells cute, colorful and affordable things. I would buy a lot of things inside, if only I didn't have to think about how to take them home without breaking them during the flight *sigh)

(Photobombed by my mom :p)

(The view from the top of Bukit St Paul)

(The A'Famosa Fort from behind. It was constructed by Alfonso de Albuquerque. It is now only the remains left, and is located downhill from St. Paul's Church)

(The front part of the the fort)

(Melaka Sultanate Palace, it was also closed when we're there, so we could only take picture from the gate. It is a wooden replica of Sultan Mansur Shah's 15th-century palace, located beside A'Famosa Fort )

(On another side of St Paul's Hill's base, there's Proclamation of Independence Memorial building)

Finished our tour at the Stadthuys' area, it was dinner time and we wanted to try the famous "Nyonya / Peranakan cuisine" in Melaka so we came into "Restoran Nyonya Suan" and ordered some special dishes.
(Gula Melaka Soya Cendol)

(The left top is Udang Lemak Nenas, shrimp with pineapple and sour spicy thick soup; the left down is Sweet & Sour Tauhoo, a very delicious tofu dish :d; the right top is Lady Finger with Sambal Bendi; the right down is Ikan Gerang Asam, a kind of sour spicy soup with fish fillet and lady finger)
With rice, some other drinks and all the food, we spent RM 140
Overall, the dishes were satisfying, two thumbs up :)

And that's the end of our first day in Melaka. :)
