Hi, hi!
On our day 5, we booked a day trip to Yarra Valley to have a taste of Melbourne's local production of beer, cider, wine, chocolate, and fruits. We booked the trip through viator.com : Wine Tasting & Winery Tours Yarra Valley Wine Tour with Lunch, Cider, Chocolate Tastings from Melbourne
It was a cloudy morning when we left Adelphi Hotel and walked to the pick-up point, in front of St Paul Cathedral, it was an easy 4-5 min walk from the hotel and there's no rush at all, one of the plus points staying in the "dessert" hotel. Have you read the post about Adelphi?
The departure time was at 7:40 AM, but we got there a bit earlier so I had an opportunity to snap some photos of Flinders Street Railway Station and Museum of Modern Art at National Gallery of Victoria (MoMA at NGV) in one frame under the cloudy sky.
For the first stop, we were taken to Gateway Estate Farmhouse, a sustainable greenhouse where they cultivate fresh fruits and vegetables to make jams and other local products.
Then, the next stop was at Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery, which sells a huge variety of chocolate products manufactured on site.
Taking the chance to have mini photoshoot on the road in front of the chocolaterie after we finished shopping, as no cars were in sight. XD Look at the sky! It started to drizzle not so long after.
The wind wouldn't even let us have a proper pose!
The third stop, Napoleone Brewery and Ciderhouse, where we got to taste their cider and beer, and purchase some home.
The tour guide/driver also brought us to one more winery at the end of the trip, but I didn't take any pictures of the place.
It is said that when you are in Melbourne, there are 3 day trips that you should check out: Great Ocean Road, Yarra Valley, and Phillip Island.
Since we did two of them, the Great Ocean Road and Yarra Valley, here are my thoughts:
You should really consider taking the Great Ocean Road tour as you'll get to see the natural wonders, get closer to the nature, and not to mention, the coastal views along the way were just too good to be missed. Check my blog post about the day trip along the ocean road, here.
For the Yarra Valley - Beer, Cider, Wine and Food day trip, I wouldn't really recommend it if you're not a wine/beer/cider drinker like I am. During the whole trip, we were offered to taste wine/beer/cider for *let me count* four times. I only sipped a very tiny little bit, for once or twice. (Well, during the Great Ocean Road tour, I drank a cup of Moscato, and I got so dizzy, that Diana got so worried and we just decided not to let me drink too much, haha). So to be honest, if you don't drink, I'm afraid the trip would be a waste, or even if you insist on joining, you'll probably just stand on the side, look around for the wine tasting session, listen to the owners explaining the production process or maybe take pictures of anything else around the winery/brewery/ciderhouse. However, the food was okay though, and some of the winery have awesome architectural designs.
So I guess, that's my two cents.
See you around again, soon?
